Review of Copycat (1995) by Stuart M — 11 Jul 2018
A Silence of the Lambs knockoff that knows what it's doing and doesn't rely on cheap gore, the film starts off strong but loses steam and ends up being just one thing happening after another. The great strength and great weakness are the same: Sigourney Weaver's doctor is confined to her house for most of the film, being unable to leave due to trauma suffered at the hands of a serial killer a few months before.
This is an interesting situation to explore and forces the film to go in some interesting directions to keep her at the forefront of all this, but by the midpoint they've run out of interesting directions and just want some more standard serial killer fare.
And the film suffers for it.
