Review of Cop Out (2010) by Remi L — 15 Jan 2011
Stuuuuupid movie. But I knew this going in. I enjoyed the movie, but it felt like a fraction of what it could've been. Cop Out (originally titled A Couple of Dicks until the studios wussed out) follows the misadventure of two off-kilter cops played by the somewhat serious Jimmy (Bruce Willis) and the never serious Paul (Tracy Morgan) on the trail to recover Jimmy's limited edition baseball card to pay for his daughter's wedding.
Hilarity and chaos ensue. Like I said previously, I feel like this movie had the potential to be funnier. It certainly had funny moments, but most of it was lukewarm. Sean William Scott's small part was a nice laugh too, but again, I was expecting more.
I wouldn't be surprised if the studio that renamed it also dialed down the humor because they probably thought it was "too much." I just expect better from Kevin Smith, so I'm almost certain this movie was a flop because of the studio that backed it.
