Review of Cop Land (1997) by Luinda L — 20 Mar 2008
Action movie star Sylvester Stallone's ultimate dramatic role as Sheriff Freddy Heflin(excluding Rocky) in this intriguing story about corrupt police cops absolutely proves his total worth as a film actor when he is morally challenged by the amazingly equal acting talents from the likes of Robert De Niro, Harvey Keital, Ray Liotta, Robert Patrick, Janeane Garofalo and the rest of the terrific ensemble cast.
Any serious film viewer who has said "Stallone isn't capable of acting" will be utterly and totally proved wrong when they sit down to watch this golden performance shining in Stallone's career.
That is not to undermine De Niro, Keital, Liotta and company who all hold their own against Stallone in their own special acting ways. Emotionally powerful and morally challenging, this story leads to an explosively right vs.
wrong climax, where the victor of the game happily triumphs in the end. An underrated and forgotten film not to be missed for all the points I've discussed.
