Review of Cop Land (1997) by Matt M — 19 Jan 2013
The NYPD community of small town Garrison (known as Cop Land) enjoys a crime like life, benefits of cover-ups and mob owned banking privileges. But their crime lifestyle is put to the test when a rookie drunk kills two black men and the sheriff upsets their plans by investigating in what seemed an idyllic town.
James Mangold chews up and spits out a Scorsese-like tale, but the plot is hard to follow only finds redemption in an intense western influenced ending. What really stands out is Stallone's performance, perhaps his most impressive commitment, which required him to gain 40lb.
