Review of Cop Land (1997) by Ben T — 01 Feb 2012
I was pretty happy when I found out that this movie had Ray Liotta and Robert De Niro in the same movie, but I was disappointed to find that these two awesome performers didn't interact at all throughout the movie.
Cop Land had an interesting premise, the idea of a neighbourhood populated by police officers was pretty unique. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to save it from the cliches. Overall this was just another corrupt cop flick, a theme that is far from brand new.
Harvey Keitel did a pretty great job as the crooked Ray Donlan, but his character was a little bland at times. There were many cop movie archetypes and typical scenes in this movie. There was the big regret, the good cop who wants to do his job, the pissed off, straight-up investigator, and a few other ones that have been spotted in cop films since the 70's.
Despite the cookie-cutter plotline, it was an all right watch though.
