Review of Cop Car (2015) by Cazimir H — 29 Sep 2015
Cop Car is suppose to be a road thriller film and has the premise that could have been good but it is faulted with a slow boring direction, stupid characters, and not even a single thrill. Director Jon Watts tries to capture the two main young boys and innocent bad habit behaviors on screen. The plot follows two young boys Travis and Harrison as they come across a abandoned police car in the middle of the field. The two would think itâ(TM)s a cool idea to go in it and drive off in the highway. Sheriff Kretzer (Kevin Bacon) notices his police car is missing from the area he left it, and goes on a hunting spree to find his car and the two boys that took it, before they notice the truth that is in the trunk.
It is a road thriller, but without the thrills, and there is not much of a plot besides seeing the two kids do stupid stuff and same with other characters. The kids are young and most of them do stupid things once in there lifetime. The two kids and there idiotic behavior, sure made it difficult to even care for them in the film. The criminal character that plans to hide in the highway and use the cop car as a decoy to hunt Kevin Bacons character was also pretty idiotic as well. Seeing his character walking all around the street, and field trying to find a hiding spot is more comical than serious. He even attempted to stand by a electrical pole, as a hiding spot which would have failed miserably. As mentioned about the lack of a depth to a story, that is the entire direction as a chase film. Kevin Bacon trying to find the kids and his cop car, until a dull showdown with a corrupted officer faces against a criminal. Cop Car is a lackluster terrible thriller film that is boring, stupid, and lacking a plot.
