Review of Cop Car (2015) by Michael M — 09 Oct 2016
A whole lot of trouble is brewing in the middle of nowhere. Kevin Bacon, one of our greatest actors, once more gives a truly unnerving performance as a corrupt sheriff whose routine evil activity is disrupted by an unlikely outside interference-two mischief making, not-very-bright young kids who steal his squad car and take it for a joy ride across the back country wasteland.
The sheriff needs to get his car back and NOT get found out, while the boys have to try and survive getting caught in the crosshairs of the Sheriff's unsavory actions. It's a mysterious film-we're dropped into the action suddenly, and dropped back out just as suddenly-but ultimately it's fun, nail biting and features two strong performances from it's young leads, whose natural abilities help make two dim-witted kids (whose actions are frequently frustrating to us, the viewers) likable and sympathetic.
They may not have the sense God gave a snail, but we're rooting for them to survive their ride in a cop car.
