Review of Cool Hand Luke (1967) by James S — 14 Feb 2009
As Norm Peterson once said, this is the sweatiest movie ever made. Themes focus on anti-establishment, friendship, and revenge. The story also parallels the life of Christ. Most people miss that, but consider: the chain gang (the apostles), the 50 eggs (the miracles), the shovelling of the ditch (agony in the garden), and the ending (death and resurrection).
Brilliant. Of course, the acting is stellar. Paul Newman's masterpiece. George Kennedy's best role.
