Review of Cool Hand Luke (1967) by Joseph H — 28 Feb 2009
As this movie starts with a drunken Luke being arrested for taking the heads off of parking meters, he is sentenced to the chain gang under the oppressive Captain (played by Strother Martin). As the movie progresses Luke seems unable to cope with the prison establishment.
As before mentioned is kind of like 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', with the prisoners eventually taking a liking to him, gaining the nickname 'Cool hand Luke' during a boxing fight.
The one prisoner says "You were bluffing and had nothing" (paraphrased). Luke responds by saying "Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand". Some argue this to be the best 126 minutes of Paul Newman's career.
I say that to be correct.
