Review of Cool Hand Luke (1967) by Amraj D — 05 Apr 2010
Another phenomenal prison film. I suppose I'm not surprised that a film that stresses nonconformity in such a brilliant and delicate way is so easy for me to love. It's insanely cynical, but the beautiful thing is that it's not overbearing at all.
This kinda felt, in a microscopically small way, like the tragedy version of Shawshank. But both of these outstanding films differ greatly as well. The movie oozes with memorable lines and timeless performances.
I think this is the first classic Newman movie I've seen, and his in-friggin-credible performance in this movie makes me wanna go out and buy every single classic Newman film out there. Yeah, he's that good.
I had high hopes for this one, and it exceeded them. Amazing movie.
