Was not realistic in the sense that in this day in age, you are not going to go to prison for drunkenly knocking off parking meters. But it's all worth it to see Paul Newman get his ass kicked by George Kennedy, and to see him attempt to escape several times.
Makes you wonder throughout the whole movie 'does this guy have bigger brains or bigger balls?'.
