Review of Cool Hand Luke (1967) by Senor C — 17 May 2010
Wow you can really do some hard time for cutting the heads off of parking meters. Paul Newman is in so many great movies & gives us another masterpiece in Cool Hand Luke. I don't know if it's his best performance because I love The Hustler & Color of Money so much but he does serve up one of the greatest anti-heroes in cimena history.
A fantastic supporting cast behind him w/ George Kennedy, Dennis Hopper, Harry Dead Stanton & Joe Don Baker just to name a few & Strother Martin is just magnificient as the son of a bitch Captian.
Highlighted by quotable dialogue (even sampled in a couple Guns & Roses songs for ya) & memberable scenes like when Kennedy beats the holy piss out of Newman in a boxing match in the yard & Newman just won't give up & the 50 egg challenge.
This is personally a favorite of mine & when the person who I was watching it w/ said it was boring & lame I couldn't believe it. I vowed to make her watch a women in prision movie next time but I guess some classics are lost on some people.
Im sure this generation is bored w/ it; that's why they have The Shawshank Redemption. King was proabably infulenced by this movie. He was probaby drunk & doesn't remember it...was King drinking when he wrote Different Seasons?
