Review of Cool Hand Luke (1967) by Ken C — 04 Feb 2011

The first time I saw this when I was younger I was bored but on my second viewing however I had a hard time taking my eyes off of it. I love this movie, I love absolutely everything about it the acting especially. It has a certain charm in every scene that keeps you intrigued all the way through and never allows you to get bored, it's like whenever your about to yawn or move or do anything indicating that your getting bored the movie slaps you in the face by immediately switching to something entertaining like a fight or an egg eating contest. Paul Newman is great, he plays a man of few words but whenever he speaks he always has something wise or badass to say. He's also supposed to resemble Jesus in many ways like at the end of the egg eating contest where he lies on the table looking the same way Jesus did on the cross, and how he becomes the center of attention to the other inmates. This movie is so reminiscent to the story of Jesus Christ that they actually show this in Catholic School or any kind of church school, but of course they had to block out the part when Lucille is washing the car. The directing allows you to see everything that goes on in the movie and sort of puts you in the characters shoes in the most emotional and exhausting scenes.

This is one of those rare perfect movies that isn't too long or too short and keeps you entertained all throughout. I highly reccomend it.
