Review of Cook Off (2017) by Cathy T — 30 Jan 2018
I don't often recommend a movie, but I just can't resist with Cathryn Michon's recent release-the smartest, funniest comedy I've ever watched.
I needed a break from "current events" and a friend recommended "Cook Off!" The story line: a cooking contest with super-quirky amateur chefs competing for a $1 million prize. My favorite comedy to date had been Best in Show, which was about dogs-my favorite subject. This movie has three times more laughs, and it's about cooking-my least favorite subject. To make me laugh about cooking it has to be really delicious.
Brilliantly co-written, -directed and acted by Cathryn Michon with support from her New York Times best-selling author husband, W. Bruce Cameron, it's got a cast of improv masters. Nothing is off-limits but it's all dealt with deftly and hilariously.
Lest you think it's a chick flick, MyHusbandTheEngineer, who is very challenging to humor, was laughing out loud through the whole thing. All audiences should delight in this movie, and if you need to lighten up your life, this film will do it!
