Review of Conviction (2010) by Sandee D — 24 Apr 2011
What a neat movie!
I've been a fan of Sam Rockwell for a while and I was not disappointed with his acting in this film. Swank has been a difficult actress for me to like - I've seen some of her other work and not been impressed - but I found her to be absolutely believable in Conviction. I can't say enough good things about the supporting characters!! You can have crappy leads as long as you have an amazing support cast who seems viable - this movie had it all!
The makeup was a huge help to the believability of the small town hard life look of things. The characters talked rough and acted rough, but that makeup really did the trick. All too often we see "white trash" portrayed by persons with perfectly capped teeth and perfectly done hair and perfectly done make-up - very disappointing. But not here. This was RAW in the best of ways.
Didn't check to see who did the music. Huge shout out to that person/those persons. Simple. Beautiful. Appropriate.
