Review of Conversations with Other Women (2006) by Anthony D — 06 Mar 2008
First thing I've got to say about this film, the entire thing is shot split screen where one camera's on the left, whilst another one is on the right. The movie uses this to show what either Helena Bonham Carter or Aaron Eckhart is thinking, shows their past, shows them both from different angles, shows one of them in one and the other one in the other, or some kind of combination of the methods or even one I may have forgotten... This works well for much of the film - one particular scene is the ending one - although there's a few parts where it hadn't worked that well, and had ended up looking odd. Also, the movie takes place over 12 hours, give or take.
Both Helena Bonham Carter and Aaron Eckhart did well in this film. The movie was awkward, and I suppose that's how it was supposed to be, as meeting someone after years upon years without seeing them IS kind of awkward, trying to get to know eachother again and finding out how they've been and what they've done with themselves...
This movie reminds me a lot of my life / a relationship I have, which is kind of depressing really :\.
The ending shot that I've mentioned before was great, as it used the two camera sides together as one shot, by having Helena Bonham Carter enter a taxi, and it drives off, and Aaron Eckhart goes into one aswell, and it drives off, and the cameras slowly steady to make it look seamlessly like one camera being used, and looked like Helena Bonham Carter and Aaron Eckhart were beside eachother in a taxi.
Nice little story, and was the perfect length to get the story across with little to no filler. It will probably be passed upon by a lot of people as boring (as there's not much going on during the film except for speaking), but it was a decent film.
