Review of Conversations with Other Women (2006) by Brendan T — 06 Jun 2008
The split scrren effect is everything to this film. perhaps a novelty on an old script. however Helena Bonham Carter pulls off her usual saracastic sharp witty and wry damsel in distress well. possibly the biggest pleasure of the film was watching the past and the present at the same time, no need for conventions like flash backs. you also get a kinda of, visual Internal dialouge as 'what couldve been's hopes/desires are played out next to reality and I have to say the split screen makes for an interesting pace. it gives the opertunity to have far fewer cuts in editing. it wouldve been nice to see some really really long lasting continious shots.
In the end the script is a little tired and tattered, but the visual effect is interesting enough to hold your attention.
