Could have been "Too much too young" I suppose... I had never paid so much attention to the lyrics of Joy Division and I had definitely never made any connection between the words and Ian Curtis' life.

That film casts a light on both, which is really interesting and surprising. I would have never guessed that behind the voice and tortured thoughts of one of my very favourite bands, there lied a life of such ordinariness in so many aspects.

Sam Riley's performance is just amazing, both in the concert scenes (including the spasms and the fits) and in the everyday life context. My love for Peter Hook's basslines or the extraordinary use of the drums as a lead instrument made me regret not to know a bit more about the musical alchemy that presided over the birth of so many great songs, but at the same time I guess the point was to focus on Ian Curtis and the inimitable touch he brought to the band.

Which is the reason why I never liked New Order as much as Joy Division... Definitely a great biopic.
