Review of Control (2013) by Bevan S — 14 Feb 2010
Well made movie that didn't really explain much about Curtis. It showed me what happened to him, but not why, and didn't really do much to explain to me what was talented about him. His story isn't that unusual within his world - quirky kid trapped in his surroundings finds outlet through music, finds success but also temptations that cause him to inevitably be unfaithful and fall apart while band members are left watching - and certainly doesn't help the case that he was any more special than any other rock musician.
The cast is good - 24 Hour Party People is a much better movie about the same thing from a different point of view - it actually puts Curtis' brief life in less awed context.
