Review of Control (2007) by Chris K — 02 Nov 2008
This film moved at a glacial pace at times but the performance of Sam Riley kept me glued to the screen anyways. He was amazing and the fact he sang in character as Ian Curtis in the gig scenes (no dubbed in music tracks) blew me away.
The film works well as it keeps everything distant and detached - there's no forced melancholy or melodrama. It was more raw and naked emotion. It reminded me a lot of what Joy Division's music is like.
Very cool film overall.
