Review of Control (2007) by Boris P — 04 Jan 2009
Something that really struck me about this film is that each shot seems to have been meticulously composed, like a photograph. The visual effect is quite impressive, therefore, despite the black-and-white (what can I say, I prefer color) and the mostly tight shots -- that is, no sweeping landscapes or vistas. The downside to this, however, is that the overall feel of the movie is static and almost cold.
Acting is great, and the story is told well. It was interesting if depressing to watch Ian Curtis fall apart just as his musical career was taking off. Still, ultimately this is just another biopic, a genre that increasingly bores me.
