Review of Control (2007) by Gavin A — 10 Mar 2009
Set against a stunningly bleak backdrop of Macclesfield in the 1980s - it is not shot in black and white, that IS the colour of the north of England - this biopic traces the life and death of Joy Division's Ian Curtis.
Tragic, funny, realistic and tragic again, we're treated to an outstanding performance by Sam Riley, the angst he feels when love is tearing him apart is palpable. And what a soundtrack! Bleak, haunting and brilliant.
