Review of Control (2004) by Cameron P — 12 Sep 2008
Disappointing. I know nothing more about Curtis' life and death than I did before I watched the film and found I couldn't muster any empathy or sympathy for him as he's portrayed here: He comes across as completely selfish and one-dimensional.
There's no real insight into his troubled mind or the beginnings of Joy Division. The three stars are for the look and atmosphere of the film. Corbijn was always on of my favourite music press photographers, and I loved some of the images captured here.
