Review of Control (2004) by Aisha K — 23 Oct 2008
A biopic based on a history written by a dead rocksinger's wife... Brrrr... Gives me the shivers because it is a one way view only, knowing the 'hero' of the story can't defend himself.
I have often been charmed by the photography of Anton Corbijn, but I'm afraid pellicule doesn't quite translate his intended views.
That's why I can't understand his choice of story for this film debut.
It's a nicety for new fans to Joy Division as an introduction to the music, but it's better to take the character of Ian Curtis for what it really is: an attempt to recreate a myth.
Better leave the dead be. And buy a record to listen to. Some stories, only music can tell.
Afraid it's not gonna stick to memory, this movie.
