Review of Contracted (2013) by Kristi M — 30 Mar 2014
Yea I get it- an art house idea of utilizing the zombie movie craze and applying it to a rape victim. Nice concept for a short story or a work of modern art (aka the cover photo if half her face was normal and the other half a zombie to reflect how she feels inside.
Nobody steal my idea). The problem is the execution of this movie. First off- it would have been much more effective if she were a more likable person to make the rape seem more like a rape instead of what can be taken as possibly consensual with a sexually confused woman who is a drug addict and chronic liar.
Even if I wanted to feel sorry for her I just couldn't. Besides any of that I don't think there is any person on this planet who would avoid seeing a doctor when her teeth started falling out and her eyes look like the beach ball on the Clear Eyes commercial.
Yes, I get it- rape and the feeling of falling apart however it just doesn't work. Great concept, it's a shame it couldn't pull the sum of its parts together.
