Review of Contraband (2012) by Fred V — 10 Aug 2012
I was really looking forward to this movie initially after seeing the trailers. It looked so exciting and action-packed and well, there was definitely action, but it was just all so underwhelming. There were moments that should've garnered surprise or shock or laughter but it was just, meh.
Maybe I'm over Mark Wahlberg's action star career. I loved him in The Departed. His character had more personality and was perhaps the funnest character to watch despite having the least action in the film.
Here, he's punching people, shooting people, involved in car chases and it was almost boring. Also, the talents of Ben Foster and Giovanni Ribisi were utterly wasted on this film with its paper-thin plot and tepid atmosphere.
