Review of Contempt (1963) by Paul D — 21 May 2012
I thought that Godard doing a movie about making movies would be something I'd love, but I found myself getting frustrated over three things: 1. this is not really a movie about making a movie, a little bit of it was but most of it was about the relationship between the husband and wife where they repeated the same things over and over, 2.
the song that kept playing. I understand that Godard does things with the score in his movies to play with the audience and constantly remind us that we're watching a film (he did it in Breathless much more effectively I felt), but just using the same minute or so repeatedly kind of drove me crazy.
And 3. could Brigitte Bardot just drop her towel already?!
