Review of Contagion (2011) by James N — 26 Aug 2012
As a lay person, the movie seems like it accurately depicts an outbreak. Every character basically represents a stereotype that people always seem encounter during times of chaos. Damon is the average Joe.
There are heroes, con men, and criminals. The movie does a decent job as a medical procedural and as a character drama. What I took away from this film was the delicateness of civil society. The movie depicts a Spanish-Flu-type event.
Unlike some movies where the disease kills all in it's path, the scary thing about Contagion is that it's killer virus only kills enough people to bring society to the brink of collapse and human kind seems ready to finish what the disease started.
It seems like it's way too plausible. That's why this film stuck with me. I recommend it.
