Review of Contagion (2011) by Chiek E — 30 Nov 2012
Superb movie on new infectious and deadly virus striking the human race. Gwyneth Paltrow had the inauspicious role of being the index case after shaking the hands of a Chef in Macao. The chef was preparing suckling pig that was contaminated by bat shit.
It was obvious to me that the virus was based on the recent new viral diseases of Nipah, Swine Influenza and SARs. The film was uncannily faithful in its portrayal of the spread of the disease. Scientific jargon on infectious disease such as the R0 was explained very clearly in layman's terms.
Very impressive indeed. Jude Law conveyed the message on government conspiracy with WHO and pharmaceutical companies for profit or getting in front of the line for connected people when vaccines are ready but in short supply.
