Review of Contagion (2011) by Bret W — 23 Dec 2012
This film was visually pleasing, but fell short of anything remotely compelling. Soderbergh's style here is cold, removed, and derivative, and I felt like the actors' potential was lost in an odd collection of cliched disaster sequences.
The film failed nearly as much as Wolfgang Peterson's Outbreak in 1995. My favorite part of Contagion was when Gwyneth Paltrow's character died; what happened afterward meandered throughout the rest of the film in a variety of annoying and boring happenstances.
Not recommended.
