Review of Contagion (2011) by Bryan P — 03 Jan 2013
A cliched, dull disaster movie that makes an outbreak of a deadly disease that causes society to break down and people to die horribly seem superficial and trite. Matt Damon is emotionless as he loses his wife and stepchild in the first 10 minutes and retains the same pained expression through the rest of the movie.
Gwynneth is hardly there and the script is dire, lurching from one disaster scene to another by way of some straight-faced, serious science talk from Lawrence Fishburne. Jude Law is the conspiracy theorist blogger who is obviously a threat to homeland security and the ending is so saccharine it will make you feel sick.
