Review of Contagion (2011) by Michael L — 29 Jun 2013
CONTAGION starts off so good, I was loving it. Then it all just falls apart. The film goes nowhere. Except for THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE, I'm not a Soderbergh fan. I find his ambitions much larger than his talents.
That's definitely the case here. In many ways he uses standard disaster film trajectory--multiple storylines and lots of stars--but CONTAGION tries to be far more serious than an Irwin Allen epic.
Unfortunately, the film doesn't have anything say beyond the initial premise. So it winds up being an empty headed downer with no point but the obvious.
