A solid science fiction movie that takes on the wonders and vastness of space in a smart and philosophical way. After proving himself to be a filmmaker capable of more than comedy and a knack for special effects with "Forrest Gump", Robert Zemeckis adapts the novel of the same name by acclaimed scientist Carl Sagan to make a rich drama about finding life out in the stars, and what it means to humans philosophically.

I enjoyed the film, it has a few flaws here and there but I seemed able to ignore most of them and just go with the premise. I also like any film that questions the existence of God and takes science seriously, which is where I tend to stand on the spectrum of things.

Quality film.
