Review of Contact (1997) by James-Masaki R — 26 Nov 2012
I thought it was pretty average when it first came out in 1997. I wanted to see aliens, other worlds, and the science fiction expected in science fiction movies. I didn't want to see yapping religious talk, crazy terrorists, or the finale that disappointed me.
But years later, I see a completely different movie. It's closer to science-fact than fiction, and the consequences of religious zealots, politicians, and corporations coming in to capitalize and demolish truth found in science.
Carl Sagan's story is really a thought provoker, and I thought the film depicted it quite well. And the disappointing ending became something beautiful and poignant by the more recent viewing.
