Review of Constantine (2005) by Joe A — 03 Dec 2010
Not familiar with the Hellblazer comic this is based on, I took the film for what it is and enjoyed this story of a demon fighter who is destined to someday go to the hell where his angry opponents eagerly await his arrival.
Keanu Reeves stars in one of his best roles as a man revived from a suicide and now cursed with the ability to see the demons and angels all around us. He battles the forces of evil in the hopes that he will be forgiven for the mortal sin of suicide and escape an eternity in hell with his countless adversaries.
Throw in a plot involving a spear covered with Jesus' blood and a woman who shares his abilities and John Constantine is in for what might be a final showdown with the forces of evil. A dark but fun supernatural action thriller.
