Review of Constantine (2005) by Dante V — 28 Feb 2013
While unorthodox in it's portrayal of the comic book character John Constantine, the film does well to provide viewers with a solid, intriguing plot backed by a beautifully dark, apocalyptic-like atmosphere. Aside from Keanu Reeves, I really enjoyed the casting in this film and the costume design. I especially was impressed with the androgynous portrayal of the Angel Gabriel by Tilda Swinton.
I do feel however that Keanu Reeves was not well suited for this role however. I think he was a poor selection for this role above all since Reeves will always be considered "the guy from the Matrix." I have do not have anything against different portrayals of characters, but if you are going to change John Constantine, at least make him unique and not a reproduction of Neo from the Matrix.
