Review of Constantine (2005) by Matt L — 04 Jan 2016
I unabashedly love this movie and was so pleased to see it on Netflix. Frightening in its spirituality and mix of magic and monsters but in the right dose and the right ways with great set pieces (the landscape of Hell with its never endings winds and burning loneliness and pain is a sight to see) and great performances all around.
Tilda Swinton will forever be a standout as one of my favorite onscreen depictions of an angel I've ever seen. Peter Stormare as Satan is also delightfully creepy. Visually beautiful in its contrasts of light and dark and the way the camera plays to all of the more dramatic and otherworldly moments.
I don't know the source material at all to compare it to, but the imagination that went into the making of this movie is something to aspire to.
