Review of Connected (2009) by Koeman L — 22 Jul 2009
It is not often that a Hollywood movie gets the remake treatment over in Hong Kong. Actually it is quite the reverse with a number of HK properties being bought and sold for remake rights to the US. Having not seen the original film by way of common sense I couldn't resist not seeing a movie with Louis Koo and Nick Cheung facing off against corruption and kidnapping.
Connected is so deliciously over the top and exciting how could you not love it. As that knob Peter Travers from Rolling Stone would say it is 'A rollorcoaster ride of thrills and chills' that I have heard far surpases the original Hollywood version 'Cellular'. All the set pieces change from exciting and thrilling to silly and exhilerating. There is never a shortage of good solid action in this film. The villains are played oh so slightly over the top but never campy. It has been a while since I have seen a HK movie this good. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come. Fingers crossed.
