Review of Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004) by Jay B — 05 Jul 2008
I watched this because it was on TV and my wife wanted to see it. I didn't even complain while it was on. But my god, what an awful movie. My first complaint is about how unrealistic and insulting Disney movies (and others like them) are when it comes to high school.
I haven't been to every high school in the US, but I'm still going to say it's unrealistic. My second complaint is that no one that of the age of the main characters would enjoy this movie because it would be too dopey for a 15-18 year old, so the target market is more like 12 year olds that have some kind of teenage fantasy.
There are many other problems (besides the fact that I wasn't entertained, but I'm not the target audience) but I'll keep it brief. An alcoholic 20-something rock star dancing with a girl in high school is skeezy.
The love interest, which could have actually added depth to the movie, was an afterthought, probably (my wife pointed this out) added in order to diffuse the skeeziness of the rock star crush. I might not be a fan of many pre-teen movies, but holy crap, I'm sure a better one can be made.
