Review of Confessions of a Porn Addict (2008) by Marcello R — 09 Dec 2008
I read about this in the paper on my way to the city, and I heard about it on the radio briefly beforehand. It's a little movie playing at one theater in Toronto for one week, and I had to see it. It's a mockumentary written by and starring Spencer Rice, is is one half of the duo behind Kenny vs.
Spenny, which is, to me, the funniest television show ever created. In this low budget almost student film, Rice plays Mark Tobias, a man so obsessed with pornography and masturbation that he loses his wife Felice over it.
While attending meetings for it, he shows pictures of his wife around and a fellow addict says that he's seen her in a porn. The movie in question is called "Down the Rabbit Hole" and has her being banged by a guy in a rabbit suit, and this shatters Mark's existence.
With the help of his sponsor (played by Yuk Yuk's creator Mark Breslin who steals the show) and the film crew, they set out to Los Angeles to save Felice from the industry that she left him over. They cross paths with psycho porn producer Rob Black, and by telling him they want to document his life as part of the study of Mark's problem, attempt to get closer to Felice.
It's a surprisingly touching film with a gut-busting script, Mark and Felice's big reunion is one of the funniest scenes I've seen all year. It involves bukkake. I'm really pissed that I didn't get to see it friday or saturday, as Spenny was in attendance doing Q&A.
