Review of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) by Johnny K — 23 Oct 2008
An 'unauthorized autobiography' of Chuck Barris adapted by Charlie Kaufman. There are some pretty unique visual styles, and is pretty entertaining in some bits, but as a biopic it is a so-so effort of interesting, if incomplete factual details.
And I can't find any meaning of this movie. Is this a movie about reality and TV? Psychological conflict of Chuck Barris? A spy spoof, perhaps? Or a combination of all above elements? This film may be too weird to the mainstream audiences, but as a work from the dude that gave us 'Adaptation' and 'Being John Malkovich', it doesn't quite reach the level of weirdness of those two films, and, frankly, normal.
May be we shouldn't be so serious. May be it is just a picture try to be fun and experimental, just like other Kaufman's works.
