Review of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) by Zane T — 06 Aug 2009
Most movies based on a true story take many liberties with the truth so why not lie anyway. Chuck Barris probably was never in the CIA nor did he really assassinate people during the Cold War. Barris did write a hit song, create TV shows and suffer a nervous breakdown.
But it's still a nice ride as Sam Rockwell plays Barris as both a funny man and a pawn in Cold War politics. This is both an espionage thriller and a parody of the entertainment business. Along for the ride is Drew Barrymore as Barris' longterm girlfriend, George Clooney as Barris' CIA supervisor and Julia Roberts in a nice role as a femme fatale.
It really doesn't matter what is real and what is false.
