Review of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) by Nikki M — 01 Jan 2010
Absolutely ludicrous. The story, so full of holes and inconsistency, is fiction at its worst. Clooney portrays the story in a very surreal and confused way, clearly having more fun with weird scene changes and camera angles than producing a cohesive point.
All the while, we're led to believe anyone should take this crap seriously by the included documentary-like segments. The result is one giant mess. Rockwell comes across like a coked-out, paranoid nerd and is just painful to watch.
I'm frankly embarassed that so many great actors would want their name attached to Barris' media-whoring. And although there may be some truth to Clooney and Barris using this as some grand metaphor for life (the ending joke IS fantastic), if that's the case it really missed the mark by going a dozen different directions at once.
