Will Smith returns to form with a strong performance in a movie that won't quite elevate the performance or allow the performance to elevate it beyond message-movie. It is an important message, but we'll never know how dulled the edges were by NFL pressure.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is given nothing to do, but be supportive of Smith's scientist as he tries to bring the truth about concussions' effects on NFL players. So many supporting characters are ruined by terrible wigs and facial prosthetics (Morse and Brooks are the worse effected).

Throw in some other lazy screenwriter additions (coworker who hates Smith's optimism) and uninspired direction and you won't need a concussion to forget everything but the message.
