Review of Conan the Destroyer (1984) by Sean O — 30 Jul 2008
An utter disappointment after the original classic, this seems to have about half the budget and less than half the thought put into the story. About as cheesy as you can get with sword & sorcery movies without heading to the couple REALLY bad series, unfortunately being the follow-up to the one that started it in the first place.
The plot just seemed to jump from one place to another with terrible ways of explaining what's going on, coupled with terribly recorded dialogue and shots to go with it. The special effects look right out of the original Star Trek TV series, with styrofoam rocks and mini-model matte shots and green-screen galore, they really should've done a better job with this, but I'm at least glad they stopped when they did.
Not to mention they cut out most of the violence that made parts of the original so memorable, going from an R rating in the first movie to PG in the second.
