Review of Conan the Barbarian (2011) by Tomas T — 30 Apr 2012
The 2011 remake of Conan the Barbarian is a movie which should never have been produced in it's current state and form.
Sure the movie has the right actors for a action movie, but sadly actors alone make a poor movie especially if the story telling side is handled as poorly as it is with Conan the Barbarian. The movie spends very little time in explaining Conan's world to the viewer. Thus the viewer is taken for a wild ride of extensive violence in place after place which make very little sense. Just think about Pirates of Carribean movies 2&3 and you get expectations quite right storytelling wise. If the storytelling is terrible at least the action is mostly cool, but sadly that too is ruined with obvious usage of plastic swords which combined with over the top machismo is just downright laughable.
Conan the Barbarian 2011 could have been easily an average action movie with medium amount of entertainment value if only more time would have been spent in the writing room fine tuning the story and screenplay side. In it's current form I ended up fast forwarding half of the movie, something I rarely resort to.
