Review of Conan the Barbarian (2011) by Remi L — 10 Nov 2012
I liked it even though the plot was as transparent as saran wrap. Jason Momoa plays Conan very well and I could definitely see him making a career doing battle epics and ancient world war dramas. I especially love the way his love interest was portrayed.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this spin on the damsel in distress. My one complaint was the excess of blood in the film. This film would come in third place for scenes with blood in it after Ninja Assassin and Sweeney Todd.
And there were moments where, forgive my armchair medical experience, it was obvious there shouldn't have been any blood and it was obvious that the studio got cheap and CGI'ed the blood in. There were moments where it was too ridiculous.
I felt that at least Assassin knew it was being over the top whereas Conan didn't realize how silly it was. And I almost feel bad for Rose McGowan. She was supposed to get her own movie as Red Sonja and here she is playing a homely villain.
The movie was okay but I'd wait til it was on TV.
