Review of Conan the Barbarian (2011) by Luke C — 25 Nov 2012

A stupid, dim-witted, boring and brainless action remake that doesn't deliver on any front. For some reason people think Arnie films would make good remakes... WRONG (see Total Recall 2012). This film is a remake of the 80's Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name which I consider as semi decent, not Arnie's best but not his worst, therefore I went into this film with lukewarm expectations.

After the end I realised I just wasted nearly 2 hours watching a brainless action film that has a cliche packed plot trying to seem cool and awesome... which it isn't. Some sequences shown in the trailer looked pretty cool e.

G Conan vs the weird sand people but the execution in these kind of scenes is very poor with crappy camera work and they are always played out very poorly. Jason Momoa was chosen to play the role (Arnie made famous) mainly because he played a ruthless and bloodthirsty barbarian leader in the HBO show Game Of Thrones.

Although he was good in that, he was always a side character whose dialogue was too brutish and silly. He plays a good warrior but not a good character if you see what I mean, just wooden on that front.

Overall the story is dull and unoriginal (even for a remake), the action is the same old boasting nothing new, the characters are wooden and very stereotyped & the layout is too chronological to be considered well done.

It's a boring and brainless action movie too bad to be considered 'so bad it's good' or even 'a guilty pleasure'. See the original for that fulfilment.
