Review of Conan the Barbarian (1982) by Peter D — 18 Aug 2011
Yeah it takes itself seriously, but the original Conan The Barbarian still succeeds as a classic, campy 80s action film. The serious aspects succeed on their own thanks to a brilliant performance from James Earl Jones and a likable performance from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The plot is always interesting and the action scenes are realistic and stylish. The effects may not be convincing, but that adds to the glory of this film's camp factor. I know I've used the word "camp" a lot in this review, but that word sums up this film perfectly: it's campy in a good way, and certainly does not need a remake.
