Review of Conan the Barbarian (1982) by John A — 27 Nov 2011
This movie is simply perfect until you watch the director's cut which adds a bunch of deleted scenes and ruins the original magic this movie captured. I own both copies but I only watch the original theatrical release which I'm sure isn't so easy to find these days.
Directed by John Milius who also co-wrote the screenplay with Oliver Stone were one cohesive unit. Arnold WAS Conan and James Earl Jones played Thulsa Doom which is in my opinion his best Villain role only second to Darth Vader.
The original theatrical release is the perfect movie. Besides amazing performances by the supporting cast;(Mako, Sandahl Bergman, Gerry Lopez, & Max Von Sydow) it is driven by the most powerful soundtrack I have ever heard composed by Basil Poledouris.
This is my favorite Arnold movie of all time. There are so many great things to say about this film. I could sit here and quote lines from this movie forever and I won't so I will leave you with this underused one: "Do you want to live forever?".
